Although I adore the first two Terminator movies (1984 and 1991), I’ve not kept up with the franchise for a long time. While 2003’s Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines was entertaining enough, and I wasn’t one of the many haters of 2009’s Terminator Salvation, after the abrupt cancellation of excellent 2008–2009 TV series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, I decided I was done with the franchise. The middling-to-poor critical reception for the following Terminator Genisys (2015, stupid name) and 2019’s Terminator: Dark Fate vindicated my decision to leave Skynet and its shiny metal monstrosities in the past, and to this day I have never bothered with either latter films.

My Terminator moratorium ended recently with the advent of Netflix’s new anime version. It’s a completely new show, narratively unrelated to any previous franchise entries, and animated by the well-renowned studio Production I.G. Having just recently completed a mammoth Ghost in the Shell binge, I was intrigued to see what the same studio could do with another landmark sci-fi property. I wrote a full review of the 8-episode Terminator Zero anime series for Anime News Network, and you can read it by following the link below.

Below is a selection of other articles that may be relevant to fans of sci-fi anime! Thanks for reading, and I’ll be back soon with my usual postmortem at the end of the current anime season.
