Make Everything E.X.P.L.O.D.E. — The Other Works of Akira’s Katsuhiro Otomo in English
Last year I reviewed every Katsuhiro Otomo-related anime I could get my hands on — some were easier than others. As a culmination of that series of articles, I submitted a detailed overview of the celebrated director’s work to Anime News Network, and it was published today:
It’s weird having two articles on ANN’s front page, after they recently also published my article about AI in anime. They’ve one more article outstanding from me to publish, and then I’d better get busy writing more (if they’ll continue to have me, of course!)
Here are links to all of the individual reviews that helped to inform this article:
And that’s everything! I suppose I could also have reviewed the tangentially-associated Harmageddon (I’ll leave that for a potential Rintaro retrospective) and Otomo’s live action Mushishi, but I’ve never seen the anime version of that story and I’d like to watch that first. Thanks for stopping by. Next I plan to take a look at the films of Makoto Shinkai, in the run up to the upcoming release of his newest movie Suzume!
