I think the Monogatari naming scheme works just fine in Japanese, because Japanese readers of course know what the words mean, and how they relate to the story. For non-Japanese-comprehending English-speakers the title scheme seems very foreign and obscure. It doesn’t help that there’s little indication on the blu-ray boxes as to the correct order to watch things in, you need to consult a wiki. That’s not exactly newbie friendly!

Oh yeah, and the naming conventions for light novels have only worsened with time. The Monogatari series seem almost like paragons of brevity in comparison.
