Have you been watching Shogun? I certainly have, and I’ve been enjoying it a lot. I’ve only just finished episode seven, so I’m a few episodes behind. Disney+/Hulu have done a great job with the series, very accurately evoking the year 1600 Azuchi-Momoyama period, frequent bloody decapitations and all.
My latest feature article for Anime News Network looks at the anime you could watch if Shogun whets your appetite for some violent historical epics, political intrigue and gritty war dramas. I had a longlist of about forty shows I whittled down to twenty, mainly because there were a bunch of potentially relevant things I unfortunately knew nothing about, so thought best not to mention.
