I watch a lot of anime with my 11-year-old son, and over the years I’ve reviewed many of the movies we’ve watched together, over on AniTAY. Lately I’ve been also writing for Animenewsnetwork.com and my newest article, published there today, is about ten non-Studio Ghibli anime movies that I think are worth watching. I used my own previous articles as a primary source for this, so below are links to each individual review, with far more detail than I could cram into a single overview article! ANN also produced a YouTube version of the article that I’ll also link to below.

Penguin Highway (BBFC PG)

(Available on blu-ray/DVD from Shout Factory in the US, Anime Limited in the UK.)

Okko’s Inn (BBFC PG)

Unfortunately, I’ve never written an individual review of this one. It’s a fun little movie though.

(Available on blu-ray/DVD from GKIDS in the US, Manga Entertainment/Funimation in the UK, streaming on Netflix in the US.)

Patema Inverted (BBFC PG)

(Available on blu-ray/DVD from GKIDS in the US, Anime Limited in the UK, streaming on Crunchyroll.)

Interstella 5555 the 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem (not rated by BBFC)

I’ve never written an individual piece about this one yet, maybe one day. It’s one of my favourite ever anime things.

(Available on blu-ray/DVD from EMI.)

Metropolis (BBFC PG)

(Available on blu-ray/DVD from Mill Creek in the US and Eureka Entertainment in the UK.)

Princess Arete (BBFC PG)

(Available on blu-ray/DVD in the UK from Anime Limited. It’s unavailable in the US.)

Giovanni’s Island (BBFC PG)

(Available on blu-ray/DVD in the UK from Anime Limited. It’s unavailable in the US.)

A letter to Momo (BBFC PG)

(Available on blu-ray/DVD from GKIDS in the US, Anime Limited in the UK, streaming on Crunchyroll.)

Big Fish & Begonia (BBFC PG)

(Available on blu-ray/DVD from Shout Factory in the US, Manga Entertainment/Funimation in the UK.)

Wolf Children (BBFC PG)

This is by no means an exhaustive list, I could easily write about another twenty or so films! Maybe one day I will. Thanks for reading!
